چکیده

n this article, the microscale ice crystal growth behavior under lectrostatic field is investigated via a phase field method, which lso incorporates the effects of anisotropy and thermal noise. The ultiple ice nuclei’s competitive growth as disclosed in existing xperiments is thus successfully predicted. The present approach uggests a highly efficient theoretical tool for probing into the reeze injury mechanisms of biological material due to ice formaion during cryosurgery or cryopreservation process when exteral electric field was involved. Effects of Statically Electric Fields on Freezing Parameters and Microstructures of Button Mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus)

Background and Objectives: Freezing under statically electric fields is one of the novel freezing methods to improve the quality of frozen products by controlling the nucleation process. The objective of this study was to investigate effects of freezing under electrostatic fields on the freezing parameters and microstructures of frozen button mushrooms. Materials and Methods: Mushroom samples w...

Modulating Band Gap and HOCO/LUCO Energy of Boron-Nitride Nanotubes under a Uniform External Electric Field

In this study, spectroscopic properties of the single-walled boron-nitride nanotube (SWBNNT) –a semiconductor channel in molecular diodes and molecular transistors–have been investigated under field-free and various applied electric fields by first principle methods. Our analysis shows that increasing the electric field in boron-nitride nanotube (BNNT) decreases the Highest Occupied Crystal Orbi...

Microscopic Study of Crystal Growth in Cryo-preservation Solutions

Ice formation inside or outside cells during cryo-preservation has been proved to be the main cause for cryo-injury to cells. A high voltage DC electric field combined with a cryomicroscopic stage was used in this study. Dendritic ice crystals became asymmetric with the addition of electric field. DMSO and NaCl solutions were tested under different electric field strengths ranging from 83kV/m t...

Modeling variability in dendritic ice crystal backscattering cross sections at millimeter wavelengths using a modified Rayleigh–Gans theory

Using the Generalized Multi-particle Mie-method (GMM), Botta et al. (in this issue) [7] created a database of backscattering cross sections for 412 different ice crystal dendrites at X-, Kaand W-band wavelengths for different incident angles. The Rayleigh–Gans theory, which accounts for interference effects but ignores interactions between different parts of an ice crystal, explains much, but n...

Study of leaky dielectric droplet behavior under an electric field: effect of viscosity and electric conductivity ratios

In this research, hydrodynamic behavior of a leaky dielectric droplet under an electric field is simulated. The level set method is used for interface tracking and the ghost fluid method is used for modeling discontinuous quantities at interface. Using Taylor’s leaky dielectric model, electric field and electric force at the interface is calculated. Simulation results show the droplet deformati...
